Name: Alphanso Lewis
Position: Act. President - Longville Park CDC
Why do you feel it is important to serve?
Serving has always been my passion growing up. The older I became is the more I realised that it should be a duty of all to serve in one way or the other. I believe if this was happening, many people would not have to suffer as they do. Serving can be the medium to pave the way for succession planning, which is what I think can and will help the next generation coming up. It is like a cycle, I serve then you serve.
Your challenges in serving
It can be a challenge to sell this idea of serving. Many people look at serving as a burden and why take on this responsibility. The fact that someone has to do it, why not me? why not you? Therefore, you may very well find yourself serving alone or your work may go unrecognised or unappreciated and this can cause some form of discouragement if you are not rooted deeply in your conviction to serve. The biggest challenge though is when your family gives little or no support to your passion to serve.
What would you most like to see for Longville Park?
I want to see a united community that eventually blossomed into a model for the other NHT schemes to emulate. I also want my fellow residents and neighbours to recognise that our noble community can only stay noble if residents own this space as if they paid ten times the amount they actually paid for their houses.
What would you say is your passion?
I have many passions, one of which is to motivate people to be the best they can be. As a father and husband, I also like to be the superhero of my family. Yea, the big man who will protect them even when I grow old like a pa paya tree.
A little about you, hobbies, family other involvement clubs etc
I like to smile just like mom. I believe a happy face is as contagious as a sad face. I considered myself a shy person; however many persons say otherwise. I like to watch movies, especially those that makes me laugh. I think I have watched BACK TO THE FUTURE over 15 times, all of them and still would watch them again tomorrow morning. I have three beautiful princesses and an awesome queen as my wife. I believe God has blessed me with these women. Currently, I am involved in many groups, such as Vice President on the May Pen DAC executive, the acting president of the Longville Park CDC and the elected president for the Longville Park Phase Three Citizens’ Association. Prior to these appointments, I have been PTA president for my daughter’s basic school and Prep school. I also served on the school board of my Alma Mater, Vere Technical High school.
In closing, I want to say this. I live by the mantra: Live and let others live.
